Asphyre 4.0.9 available - 21-Feb-2007, 21:27

We are proud to release the fourth snapshot of Asphyre 4.0.9, which is the last snapshot before Asphyre 4.1 with programmable 3D pipeline and Asphyre GUI foundation. Read more about it in Asphyre Releases section of our Asphyre Wiki. The above features are not yet available, but you will need to port your project to this release to be able to use them later. It is about 98% compatible with the previously released Asphyre 4.0.1 snapshot dated 29-Jan-2007.

You can download the latest snapshot at:
http://asphyre.afterwarp.net/files/A...ot21feb2007.7z
http://asphyre.afterwarp.net/files/A...t21feb2007.rar

The previous snapshot is still available at:
http://www.afterwarp.net/asphyre/fil...t29jan2007.rar
http://www.afterwarp.net/asphyre/fil...ot29jan2007.7z

Make sure to read the included "readme.txt" file for important information and "changes.txt" for a comprehensive list of changes. Note that not all changes have been documented! If something doesn't work as expected, feel free to post about it on our forums.

Will Ashpyre4 support scaling GUIs? (eg. so it looks the same in all resolutions including fonts)

Also, will Asphyre4 support the idea of a 2D camera?

Asphyre is not an engine, but a framework. And engine includes a camera, which you must make for yourself. The reason is, simply put, there are many types of camera and it is insignificant compared to the rest of the work that Yuriy is putting in.

Scaling GUI's, yes, scaling font's, not neccessarily. You could make it that the scalefactor is changed though with ease, from what I understand.

Different resolutions exists so you can put more stuff on the screen. If you want to make your application resolution independent - just make it for only one resolution (e.g. 800x600). Most CRT monitors will display it properly and most LCD monitors will rescale it to fit their native resolution as well.

Asphyre GUI foundation developed for Asphyre 4 doesn't support scaling. Simply because it looks bad: either blurred or pixelated. It is skinnable (that is, you need to use your own skin) and the shape is fixed although you can rescale it, which will make you lose precision.

This is how free-shape GUI looks like:

Note that you can only select the window if the mouse is exactly inside its shape. Same applies to edit boxes. The check uses polygonal definition of window, which doesn't need to be convex. Later on I might add circle shape to allow making polygonal/circle shape hybrids for round controls.

Hello Lifepower,

In the source of this unit "AsphyreMeshX.pas" you're using ID3DXMesh.... , what is the performance for a game? is good?

type
TAsphyreMeshX = class(TAsphyreCustomMesh)
private
FMesh: ID3DXMesh;

Knowledge is power.

Yes, as long as your mesh is optimized.
